I feel like I've seen this so often before... Player is looking for a snap call from one of the other players - he's holding AA (mostly) or sometimes KK. Talk about an overbet! Either he's putting a move on me, which I don't see why he would do, or his range is AA, AK, KK. 50% of the time I'm flipping, 50% of the time I'm a 20% dog. With $1.75 in the pot, I'll try again another time.

Final Pot: $7.25
BB wins $7.25

  1. No thought to a hand he thinks is good, but he doesn't know how to play it multiway & out of position? My read here is AK/AQ/QQ/JJ/1010. You are well ahead of that range. I call.

Perhaps that is just because I primarily play higher stakes shallow tables.

  2. couldn't this be a squeeze? If so, his range is wider than monsters.

If you have any reason to believe this could be a squeeze, combined with the analysis of the first poster (big bet size=scared), call.

  3. The problem that I have here is the sheer size of the shove. We're 150BBs deep. He has an off-normal 3bet @ 5.7%, but his VPIP / PFR is tighter than the average. The biggest factor leading to my fold is his 11/9 - saying that he has a semblance of an idea about PF hand strength. I just have trouble believing I'm up against AQ, JJ. I think at worst, I'm going to be shown AK, and more likely KK, AA. It's just such an odd play... I'm dumbfounded.

  4. Without any history, this is a fold. You only have 3.5 bb in the pot and he wantes to play for another 146.5. He has to believe that one of the 3 people will call, especialy the BTN. He is not doing this with JJ or less.

  5. "...higher stakes shallow tables."

I think this is the key here. I don't mind stacking off 40BBs in this spot. I'm wrong, GG - if I'm right, fist pump. 150BBs is quite a ways away from 40 though.

I think the only way I'm making this call is KK, AA. I'm ditching AK, FWIW, although I'm more inclined (if I were going to choose between QQ or AK) to make the call with AK because there are many less opportunities for the villain to show up with AA, KK than when I hold QQ.

  6. To be clear, I will definitely get into spots where I'm 100-150bb deep. For 40bb, it is definitely a snap call.

I just think I would call even 150bb. What in the world does he expect to get value from if he has AA/KK? He can't expect someone to have QQ/JJ/AK here very often. The callers almost definitely don't have it and your loose enough to not have it often. The more I think about it, the more I think that was a bad fold.
