Is this ever a money-making play to call? Clearly, given the results, I could have raised him off his hand possibly, but I imagine if I lead, I'm going to have to lead with what amounts to an all-in - and even then, is the typical player who turned a 3 flush laying down his counterfeited 4 flush?
I just couldn't resist calling $9 into $27...

i'm not trying to push people off of a flush, that seems like folly to me.
ReplyDeleteif I call here, it's not for the purpose of winning the hand, it's more for metagame purposes - to show someone I'm loose enough to play J2s. Then I'll be tightening up my range vs. this player significantly.
I had a similar hand last night, with the same result... I'll post it later this week or next. I'm starting to put together a pattern here [perhaps] where small bets on a 4 flush are "stabs," which probably can't afford to be raised. It's a dangerous game, though, counting on the guy to fold his counterfeited 4 flush...
ReplyDeleteWith regard to metagame, unless I'm playing a reg, I really don't place much importance in that. I'm going to see this guy for 150-180 hands and likely will never see him again. If I do, he won't remember me, nor I him.
