What would you do? #4

The MP2 is 13/9/9.0 @ 140 hands. I expect him to be aggressive post flop, but...

Full Tilt Poker $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players - http://www.thehandconverter.com/hands/287242
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

MP1: $10.00
MP2: $52.25
CO: $27.60
BTN: $64.75
SB: $50.45
BB: $50.00
UTG: $48.45
Hero (UTG+1): $91.95
UTG+2: $40.65

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is UTG+1 with Qs Qd
1 fold, Hero raises to $2, 2 folds, MP2 raises to $6.75, 4 folds, Hero calls $4.75
Given he has a full stack, I make the call, getting roughly 10:1 on his stack.

Flop: ($14.25) 2h 9s 9h (2 players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets $10.25, Hero folds
He's very protective / aggressive in his bet out here. He has to have me beat, with a PF 3bet + a near pot bet out. If he has AK, TT, JJ, GG sir. I just can't stick around for my pot in this situation. Let it go & get another one...

Is this a "good" laydown?

Final Pot: $14.25
MP2 wins $13.55
(Rake: $0.70)

  1. Meister,

Seeing villain's 3-bet% would help, since it might give us some insight into what range of hands he is 3-betting. I'll often 4-bet QQ+, since a lot of players are 3-betting much worse, and the bad ones may call a 4-bet. But given his tight #'s, calling is OK.

But, you can't play QQ just to setmine here. You will be a loser if you are calling 3-bets and only planning to continue if you flop a set (i.e., never stealing or otherwise challenging for the pot).

Your QQ is ahead of AK/JJ/TT, as you note. So why not at least call the flop to see if he continues firing?

I don't necessarily think it's that bad to raise here, although if you raise, you have to play for stacks. Pretty much anything other than folding. Like I said, if you are just setmining, fold PF, since you can't profitably call a 3-bet to setmine.

I call for a twofold reason. I call to set mine, but I also call, feeling as though I may very well be good. In fact, I think this is the first time I've seen him 3 bet, but I have 140 hands on him. I don't expect / think he's going to be firing out near pot on the flop with TT, JJ after a big RR and I'm calling. Morever, I don't think he's RRing PF with TT, JJ. At worst (for me), he has QQ or AhKh. I don't even think he has AK, because again, I don't see him firing like that on a draw. Even if he has AhKh, we're a coin flip. The only thing I'm beating / tying is QQ and he has a slight edge by holding the Qh. I conclude that he HAS to have KK, AA. He has been SO aggressive this hand, and this hand only, that I have to conclude he has something huge based on his flop bet. Like I said, if I'm wrong, move on - there will be other opportunities to get rich - off of him or other players who overplay their pocket pairs or draws. The beauty of cash games. Maybe I'm weak, but this is far from my usual line...
