The Poker Meister #62 - rivered straight

Full Tilt Poker $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

UTG: $50.00
UTG+1: $28.30
UTG+2: $65.65
MP1: $89.60
MP2: $17.95
CO: $49.50
BTN: $84.40
Hero (SB): $85.75
BB: $32.45

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is SB with Js 9s
2 folds, UTG+2 raises to $1.50, 4 folds, Hero calls $1.25, BB calls $1

Flop: ($4.50) 5d 8s Td (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG+2 bets $3, Hero calls $3, BB calls $3

Turn: ($13.50) Jh (3 players)
Hero bets $6, BB folds, UTG+2 raises to $20, Hero calls $14
I'm guessing my Jack is no good here. The only combinations that make sense are sets. However, I still have an open-ender, and with $40+ behind, I think I'm getting paid if I hit.

River: ($53.50) Qc (2 players)
Hero bets $20, UTG+2 raises to $41.15 all in, Hero calls $21.15

Final Pot: $135.80
UTG+2 shows 5s 5c (three of a kind, Fives)
Hero shows Js 9s (a straight, Queen high)
Hero wins $132.80
(Rake: $3.00)

  1. First off, I probably don't play this hand out of position.

Secondly, I probably play it more aggressively after the flop with a check/raise. Of course, you don't know that he has a set.

Results ended up good; but that shouldn't taint any look at the hand.

I'm not sure the reads that you had on this guy, if any; but at the end of the day, you stacked the guy so that can never be bad, can it?

  2. This was absolutely not my finest work :-). In re-reading the HH, I realize I'm calling ~50% of my stack with 1 card to go on an open ender. I don't have a problem with the initial call, though - it is, afterall, J9s!
