Back to my roots - a min cash at the $100K on Bodog - 2010-08-01 recap

I can't let PokerGrump take all of the money on Bodog's overlaid tournaments.  I've been looking for awhile to [re-]start a bankroll there; it was Bodog that started my online poker addiction career.  Back in March of 2007, I had deposited $50 and was able to play with it for 6-8 months before going busto.  After busto, the credit card companies denied new deposits and I sort of gave up on Bodog.  Well, a few months ago, they sent me an email offering me $10 free in casino chips to try out there casino with the catch that I had to place 100 bets in order to request a check / use the money in other areas of their system (i.e. poker).  I was able to convert the $10 to a $15 bankroll, and immediately proceeded to donk it off at the .02/.05 poker tables.  Crappy, yes, but oh well - it doesn't feel good to lose your puny BR at the micro stakes :-(.  I then tried to swap money with a fellow blogger, but Bodog doesn't allow player to player transfers.  Long story short: I gave up.

Fast forward to 4 days ago and you can imagine my surprise when I got an email from Bodog offering me a complimentary $215 + $12 ticket to their $100K Guaranteed tournament.  It's interesting that they offer me $10 in gambling casino chips, and now offer me a $227 tournament entry(?!?!).  I'd take the cash any day of the week, but whatever.  I'll take a shot.  After checking it out with the wife, I registered and waited for Sunday 4pm to roll around so that I can take my shot at getting a real bankroll.  Quick aside: I had read previously that Bodog's player base was very weak, so I see an opportunity there, if only I can get a bankroll where I can sustain the ups & downs.  Starting out, my goal for the tournament [obviously] was to win the thing; the structure was such that first prize would get 25% of the $100K.  However, as a default position, I wanted to do no less than min cash, thus giving me the bankroll I desired.  A min cash would work out to .3% - $300 for 63rd place.

As I said, the tournament started at 4pm, though I didn't really get serious about it until 6:00PM - my stack was up & down, and the play was proven to be absolutely atrocious.  If you've been reading this blog long enough, you know that I'm a 98% cash player; I'm not sure whether this is standard for $227 Sunday majors tournaments.  For example, people were putting stacks on the line post-flop with AK high, or calling all-ins with gutshot draws (and they all seemed to be hitting & sucking out).  I knew if I got a hand or two, I would be able to at least cash this sucker.

WARNING: No hand converters, so HH suck!  I'm going to try to detail most hands, but I'm kinda lazy!

Early, I wound up doubling through a flush draw against my flopped boat...  the players were chatting "vnh," "nh," etc...  Really?  I'm playing like 10% of my hands and I call all-in and you think I played it well?

Anyway, I'm sitting on a mid stack at around 6:50PM when the following comes up:

ThTs in SB with 300/600 blinds & 60 antes.  I'm sitting on a short 17K stack and donk is sitting on 25K.  This is a pretty dicey situation, as I can seriously hurt donk's stack if he loses, but I will absolutely go out of the tourney if I lose...  Donk raises to 1325 from BTN; he'd been stealing and very active.  I re-pop him (first time I'd 3 bet) to 5K.  That's a pretty good indication that I'm not going to fold when I have 1/3 of my stack in there already.  He 4bets me to 15K and I ship for the last 2K.  He shows up with AcKd so we're off to the races.  Now, as I said earlier, I'm not a tourney pro by ANY stretch, but against a tight opponent, if you're the donk, aren't you flatting against my FIRST 3 bet?  At best, you're 50/50, and at worst you're FAR behind.  I have to imagine I'm flatting there...  Anyway, I fade a 9 2 J Q 2 board to win a huge (relative) pot.

From that point on, I had garbage on top of garbage, and my table consisted of 3 of the top 10 big stacks with 120 runners left...  I sat in 27th place, FYI, after the hand.  When I mean garbage, this kinda crap was typical:

The sum total of runners was 593 players, leaving a nice overlay to the tournament that was free to begin with :-).  For the next few hours, I had to sit idly watching big stacks battle each other and throw all in with gambles -  it’s to the point where it’s humorous.  The play here is simply atrocious.  They're 100BB+ deep and getting all in PF with AK vs. 55 or whatever...  I’ve stolen a few times, but haven’t had the gall to re-steal against those stealing on me.  BTW, I hate the fact that I can’t get a HUD with Bodog tournaments.

I work up the courage to start opening my game, because I'm not getting any traction...  I steal in early position with the best hand I've seen since the TT hand (30 minutes ago):
And it works!  I move up to 25th place!

3 minutes later, I get involved with a really weird hand with a player who had been incredibly active - raising nearly every hand.  The quick of it is that I have 34K to his 57.5K stack.  Antes are 500/1K & blinds are 100.  I am dealt Ah2h in SB (once again) and decide to defend his EP raise to 3K.  We see a flop of Kc4cAc.  I check call a bet of 6K, leaving me 25K.  The next card is a Kh and we check through the turn.  Finally, Js is dealt on the river and I check to weirdo who leads for 19.9K(!!!?!??!?!?).  Given his check through the turn, I have trouble buying that he has an Ace or King - he's polarized to monsters / air.  [I probably shouldn't have] but I check / raise all in for the remaining 25K and he SNAP folds... I mean so fast he didn't even wait for my bet to hit the table...  Just weird, but I win a 60K pot!  I am now in 4th place out of 110 runners!  With the blinds and bubble approaching, stacks are moving fast.

I [unsuccessfully] try opening my game up but fail miserably.  After chipping down a bit, I steal with A8o and get into a little mix with a big stack:

I have 49K and big stack has 73.5K... 500/1000 blinds and 100 antes still.  It's 7:30PM. (WHEW!  A lot happened in a short amount of time!)  I am dealt A9o in the UT+1 and raise 3.5K where big stack calls in the BB.  Flop is 2c7h6c and we check through.  The turn is Ks and I lead for 6K and illicit a fold, taking a decent pot.

Then, I get involved in a 3-way pot which was somewhat of a cooler (600/1200 blinds and 120 antes):
I have Ah4h and call in EP for 1200.  CO calls as well, but BTN short stack open shoves 7.6K.  I flat and BTN flats behind.  I considered raising there, but I wanted to keep it light with BTN because he's sitting on 78.5K vs. my 46K.  Flop comes 4s9s6c and I lead 8400 and get a call from BTN.  Turn is a beauty: Ac.  Since the pot is now well above my stack (41K), I bet 22K hoping for commitment but he folds.  The BTN has 4c4d for the flopped set - CRAP so I wind up breaking even on the hand with a $17K side pot win.

7:40PM: I'm in 26th place out of 84 left.  63 paying!

7:45PM: I lose a decent pot where I whiff entirely.  Starting stack of 42K and ending stack of 34K.

7:47PM: The poker Gods love me!  If I had been thinking about this, I should have flatted, but whatever:
I have AcKc in UTG+1 and a 27.5K stack vs. my very active player's EP1 27.5K stack.  Blinds are still 600/1200 with 120 antes.  I raise to 3.6K and am 3bet to 10.8K.  Folds around to me where I shove the remaining 24K and am called to see QcQd - a race.

Ace in the window and I'm back in solid footing.  20th place with 77 remaining.  14 more until the money and I start folding my way into the money.  Remember: I want to get a bankroll, first & foremost, but I would love to take this sucker down.

After 13 more minutes of nothing-ness, I blind down as we break at 8:00PM and I sit in 39th place after having lost a 44 vs. QQ 13.5K pot.  66 remain and the money jumps from a min cash of $300 to $600 at 27th place.  Since there is such a gap and delay between money jumps, once we’re in the money, my plan is to start getting aggressive.  I’m hoping for 3 quick bust outs immediately following the break so that I can start aggro-ing it up.  I'm already getting flack from my wife because she has taken the kids out to dinner without me.  It sucks being tied to the computer this late at night, but the tournament started at 4:00PM…  4 HOURS of poker straight!  My donk-cash game playing self isn't used to playing 1 table, 4 hours.  Earlier, to begin the tournament, I was 3 tabling on my Full Tilt account while playing Bodog - continuing to work off the mid-year bonus allotted to me, but once I started getting deeper in this tournament, I decided to focus my full attention on the HUD-less Bodog windows.

While we’re on break, I’ll tell you that I do not recommend the Bodog software at all.  This has to be the clunkiest piece of trash in the universe of online poker…  The lobbies are cumbersome, the settings for the windows are not nearly as configurable as the big 2 (PokerStars & Full Tilt), and the Hand Histories are un-retrievable in a standard format (my apologies for the above BS retelling of the hands).  Finally, you actually have to pay close attention to the tables because there aren't any tools to enable HEM or PT3 to display a HUD.  Apparently, the lack of HUD is solely for Bodog tournaments - when I played in the cash games previously, I was able to use a hand converter to basically screen scrape the Bodog windows and pipe them into usable text files for HEM processing.  With all it's faults, though, the one HUGE plus that Bodog does feature is apparently its player base, as I said before.  If I can min cash here for as TERRIBLE of tournament player as I am, the player base must truly stink!  Whatever, we’re coming off break, so here goes the money!

8:08PM: I get a BB special to pad my stack with flopped TP - going for a check raise that never comes to fruition.

8:10PM: 64 left!  We've entered hand-for-hand play.  I'm in 31st place with 35K chips.  Chip lead holds 155K and the average stack is 48K.  One minute later, the bubble bursts and I immediately implement my plan:

8:14PM: I have 3h3d and have a 39K stack vs. an UTG (chip leader) raise to 5K.  Blinds are 1k/2k with 200 antes.  UTG+1 flats with his 26.6K stack.  I auto ship my 39K figuring for a race...  either I chip up nicely into the top ten or I go out to dinner with a new $300 BR.  Either way: win win.  UTG over-shoves his 155K stack and UTG+1 [strangely] CALLS his 26.6K - I don't get that; whatever he has that's NOT AK or QQ+ has to figure to be beat.  Well, the UTG+1 tables 8s8c and the big stack tables AcKh.

Flop is AsKc9s and that's all she wrote; 5h 7d on the turn & river and UTG+1 and I are toast.  GG, Bodog, and thanks for the free tournament!  Given the level of play there, I will definitely be back.  In fact, I think I will start trying to play satellites into these types of overlay tournaments.  The money seems fairly easy, given that I have the time to play it.  In the interim, I definitely want to check out their cash tables.  If the players are anything like what I experienced in the tourney, then I most certainly have an edge.  Couple that with a HUD and I think I'll be rolling in no time.

An interesting session at Delaware Park - 2010-07-30 trip report

This session was fairly standard...  I was definitely running hot, getting Aces or Kings about 4-5 times within the 10-11 hours I was there.  I wound up winning approx. 5 (FIVE!!!) buy ins over that time, which was by far, my single-best session.  Truly amazing, because I wasn't playing particularly well, but the players at my table were simply TERRIBLE.

In seat 4 was a guy who "plays online," but plays the play money tables at PokerStars.  He apparently regarded his live, real money as fake play money, because I don't think he approached his live poker game any differently...  He had a wad of cash and was not afraid to go through it - chasing down top pair, no kicker in the face of serious action, or calling down middle pair in the face of decently-sized value bets.  He was the textbook definition of a calling station; TPTK was good enough to go to town on him.  I think the whole table realized that there was a true ATM, and we were all working on "rewarding" his "good moves" for winning a pot and silently racking up when he lost.

In seat 8 was a guy who claimed online poker was a joke and rigged.  He was one of those Ed Hardy wearing punks... 20's, gaudy hat, sunglasses perched on the brim of his hat (just a total mess of fail trying to represent cool)...  just thinking he was hot stuff.  This guy was a total aggro donk - not afraid to shove at the slightest threat.  He was clearly out to prove that he had the biggest ego at the table.  In a prior, earlier hand, I had laid down AQo to action where he raised EP to $10 and I 3bet to $40 (he had been putting out a TON of action, and we're $300 deep effectively).  To show the respect I was getting, the seat 6 (whose game I respected) folded his JJ to me and it came back to schmuck who laid $100 on top of the $60.  Correct or incorrect, I'm not willing to go to the wall for 150BBs, which was exactly what this hand threatened.  I folded and he proudly showed AcTc - he "knew" he was ahead and got me to fold the worst hand.  He was *SURE* of this!  Game on!

I told my wife that I was planning to leave at around 10pm; the drive is 1 hour 45 minutes from my house, and if left, it would get me home at a reasonable hour.  However, given the two turkeys above were involved in the game, and had full stacks, I was not going anywhere.  My wife understood this - she's more results-oriented - and was more than happy to let me keep going until I busted one or both of them.  Seat 4, a truly nice guy regardless of his play, decided to pack up leaving Ed Hardy alone as the weakest player.  Watching his play, I couldn't wait to bust him so bad - all I needed was a hand and he'd do the rest of the work for me...

I would get my opportunity when I limped T9o in the MP to a table *FULL* of limpers...  we saw a limped 8-way flop of Q Jd 7(I think because it's the only card that makes sense).  SB ($600+) leads the flop for $12.  Ed Hardy calls ($185(?)) and I call my open-ender ($1000).  Turn is a beautiful Kd.  SB again leads for $35, Ed Hardy calls and I call - I don't believe there's a lot of value in raising here for a few reasons:  I have no reason to believe SB will stop betting (I can't get stacks in because SB is competent and will not allow that to happen against me, whose game he respected as well), if I raise, he'll stop betting and go cautiously, and I'm afraid of losing Ed Hardy who I think I can stack on the river.  Anyway, I call behind with my turned straight.  River is the Ad, putting a running diamond 3-flush on the board.  I'm not very concerned with that hand, given the action, but it certainly is a possibility to consider.  SB leads again, though for a small $25 river bet.  Ed Hardy insta-shoves his remaining $125 into the pot (couldn't wait!), and I decided to flat - counterfeited by the river Ace - sure it gave Ed Hardy the straight as well.  SB was contemplating a call and started to tank...  while he was doing this, Ed Hardy flips up his Td and pushes it forward leaving one hole card face down.  SB says - "WHOA!  I haven't made a decision yet." [long pause] and Ed Hardy quickly covers up the exposed Ten...  SURE!  like SB didn't see the exposed card, you ass.  What planet are you from?  You're sitting two seats away from him, dumbass!  Next thing I hear from SB is: "You know, I was going to call, but I can't now...  I'm beat." and folds.  This sends me through the roof!  WHAT A F*ING IDIOT!  First, I'm counterfeited on the river (in after thought, probably my fault because I should have charged for that turn card), but now I'm not even getting half of the $125 that I should have gotten because of this SCHMUCK.  WTF?!?!?!?  Well, much to my surprise, the dealer ships me the whole pot.  When Ed Hardy sees what's going on, he starts protesting on the grounds of split pot.  Now, I didn't say anything other than show my dissatisfaction about dude prematurely turning his cards face up, but dealer says that he folded his hand; you need 2 cards to lay claim to a pot, and he only showed one and pushed them both forward, into the muck.  Ed Hardy was not getting any table support; they saw clearly what he did, and all hated him as well so had no problem with awarding me the pot.  Floor was called - too late already, I'm racking up and moving out - but floor rules in favor of the dealer's ruling regardless. He even started to angle shoot, saying he exposed his 7o but flipped it back over, which was patently untrue.

That's what I call poetic justice.  I tipped the dealer $25 and took leave the next hand.  In thinking about it while driving home (with the $100 I should have had to split but instead wound up with in full because of schmuck's two errors, should I have given him back his money?  Perhaps, if he was a nicer guy, not full of piss & vinegar, I would have considered it.  Perhaps if I wasn't out to bust him and him alone, on principal, I would have.  Perhaps if he didn't show that Ten, I would have.  This guy was out trying to proves something, so F him.

Good game!

When is a poker face not a poker face?

Somewhat embarrassed to mention this, but I got a mention on the Freakononmics blog today.  I read Poker Grump's post on Research on the Best Poker Face, and started investigating down the link chain.  I sent them an email encouraging them to check it out.  BTW, the reason I'm embarrassed is because Grump didn't get credit.  Sorry Grump.

Check out my new-found fame:

Here's what I sent Levitt:
I know that Steven Levitt is [or used to be] big into poker - online and otherwise.  I am a part-time professional player - thus I keep up on blogs and such.  I came across this study today and figured you may be interested in blogging about it:

Edit:  I guess the non-mention of Grump is okay, because Lifehacker didn't give me credit: Use a Slight Smile Instead of a Poker Face.  Just kidding; two wrongs don't make a right :-).

Given his 3bet %, I'm placing little emphasis on this move.  I'm in position, and he can potentially show up with Ax - I can fold to an Ace on the flop, etc.

Flop: ($11.50) 8h 6c Tc (2 players)
SB bets $7, Hero calls $7
He donk bets me, which would be somewhat consistent with an overpair - the board is 2 flush and has straight draws.

Turn: ($25.50) 2h (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks
I don't know that he's checking AA, KK, even QQ here - but if he is, it's certainly for pot control.  I think if he has 99 or 77, he's continuing to semi-bluff because he should feel like he has fold equity.

River: ($25.50) 7d (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $6, SB raises to $49 all in, Hero ???
So he goes from pot controlling the turn to check / raising all in on the river.  What do you think?

Hero calls $43
This move just does not feel consistent with a rivered set, or rivered straight.  It's too easy for me to put him on those hands, so his shoving is only getting called by a 9 or possible set.  I think he's fully aware of that fact, which is why he shoves.  This is the classic definition of "polarized range."  He's not doing this with QQ+, as he repped PF and on the flop.

I feel like if he's not already ahead of me with a flopped set, he could have easily been semi-bluffing with 2 overs and hit an Ace. It also feels like an Ace is a terrible "bluff" card in this spot, given the PF action. I can easily show up with AK, AQ.

What would you do? #151 - Facing flop shove holding overpair KK in 3 way pot

Again, I had one of those nights where I was on a roller coaster. I was getting my opponents into spots where I was very much +EV, but I could not seem to get the cards to cooperate. At one point, I think I was down 3 buy ins, but I somehow managed to overcome and win THREE (3) WHOPPING BBs!!!! Yes, that's $1.50!!! BOOYAH! To be honest, though, given how I ran, I feel like I had a major win last night.

There was one Argentinian dude who kept pushing everything he had - draws, hands, etc. and hitting it even when behind. The cards would not reciprocate with me as far as luck; he was mostly responsible for the early deficit. The second hand I played against him, I got it all in AA vs. his AK (and I held). I should have treasured that, because I would go on to get a set all in on the flop vs. his flush draw and he turned it. I would hit an OESFD vs. his flopped set - all in again, and turn the flush but the river would pair the board. Those were the 3 notable hands that I remember, but there was other nonsense like him hitting two pair against my overpair, and other BS. It just sucked and was frustrating.

Anyway, this HH goes right to the top of the heap.  This hand took place last night...  related to all the HHs that I've been throwing on here showing a similar pattern of flatting a 3bet and getting wild action for stacks on the flop / turn / river.

Go ahead & let the flames begin!

MP1: $34.25
MP2: $64.05
CO: $50.00
BTN: $53.20 - 16/9 / 0% steal / 3.7% 3bet / 10 AF / 150 hands
SB: $51.60 - 18/3 / 0% steal / 0% 3bet / 3.0 AF / 44 hands

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is UTG+2 with Kd Ks
2 folds, Hero raises to $1.75, 3 folds, BTN calls $1.75, SB raises to $7.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $5.75, BTN calls $5.75
So in 44 hands, the SB has yet to 3bet, which is not a big deal.  The only problem is that he's shown to be a fairly competent player who is choosing an odd spot, SB, to 3bet and/or squeeze.  I decide to take a flop rather than 4bet.  Unfortunately, that gets BTN to flat twice.

I feel like I've seen this before...

Flop: ($23.00) 9s Qh 8d (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BTN bets $23, SB raises to $44.10 all in, Hero ???
What else can BTN or SB have?  I have to believe that SB has AA at this point - or KK - and BTN has QQ.  Perhaps I have it backwards, but someone hit this flop hard and someone is going to get crushed.  We can rule out the random JT here right?

What would you do?  Be honest and leave a comment PRIOR to clicking the reveal.  I feel like this is a hand that goes to show down, so I don't want an "Of course!  Fold all day every day!" or "Of course!  How can you fold to an obvious bluff?!?!?"  What are the ranges / and am I dominated here or am I making a stupid decision and should be calling off the rest of my stack?

BTN shows Qd Qc (three of a kind, Queens) - I feel like at this point, it's somewhat of an obvious tell for a player to flat with QQ like that.  He's in no-man's land... akin to JJ, but worse because there's only 2 hands that beat you instead of 3.  I feel like QQ and JJ play hands very similarly, and you can see that pattern evidenced in the past few HHs.

MP1: $50.00 - 9/7 / 33% steal / 4.3% 3bet / inf AF - 165 hands

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is MP2 with 3h 3c
3 folds, MP1 raises to $1.75, Hero calls $1.75, 2 folds, SB calls $1.50, 1 fold

Flop: ($5.75) 6d 7h 7c (3 players)
SB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets $3.25, SB raises to $8, MP1 folds, Hero ???
I figure to stab at the pot, which is a fairly good board for an underpair.  Are you calling his raise?  What's your plan for later streets?

Hero calls $4.75
I just can't believe him for wanting to build a pot with MP1 still to act.  If he has a 7 or flopped boat, I think he doesn't want to push MP1 out.  Therefore, this raise wreaks of weakness and altogether bullying.  However, right here, I'm not looking to build a pot with my vulnerable pair.

My plan is to lead again on the turn with a safe non-connecting card and close the door to his potential draw.

Turn: ($21.75) 8s (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks
Crappy card because a semi-bluffed OES just hit TP.  He could have been on a draw and hit a better pair.

River: ($21.75) Th (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks
Since he's content to check down, so am I.

Final Pot: $21.75
Hero shows 3h 3c (two pair, Sevens and Threes)
SB shows Ad Qh (a pair of Sevens)
Hero wins $20.70
(Rake: $1.05)

What would you do? #149 - Facing a river "shove" holding an overpair KK

Am I being pushed off the best hand here?

UTG+2: $19.00
MP1: $50.00
Hero (MP2): $153.40
CO: $18.00
BTN: $43.35
SB: $11.95

CO posts a big blind ($0.50)

Pre Flop: ($1.25) Hero is MP2 with Kc Kh
UTG raises to $2, 3 folds, Hero raises to $7.25, 4 folds, UTG calls $5.25

Flop: ($15.75) 5c 6d Qs (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $9, UTG calls $9
I should have probably checked this flop.  What hands are calling PF to a strong 3bet?  I think JJ+ are certainly calling.

Turn: ($33.75) 2h (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks
I am trying to pot control at this point.

River: ($33.75) 9s (2 players)
UTG bets $45.70 all in, Hero requests TIME, Hero folds
Am I wrong to fold this?  I think he puts me on exactly what I have: KK+, and his range is JJ-QQ.  I'm pretty sure he flopped a set.

Final Pot: $33.75
UTG wins $32.10
(Rake: $1.65)

Just lovin' expressed weakness

Had a nice +3.5 buy in night last night.  Always nice to win money - even better when you're starting to run terribly and then you go on a decent upswing.

If you're interested in hearing what a degenerate dedicated poker player I am, the power at my house has been out since Sunday's storms hit our area.  Yeah, we're one of the homes affected by the "violent DC storms."  Don't worry; we're okay - I'm sure you all were very concerned :-).  Regardless, I'm anxious because I couldn't play online Sunday night - we had a live game (which I couldn't host due to power outages).

Why is this important?  Over at Full Tilt in the online world, we're in the middle of the mid year bonus cycle for Iron Man and I'm trying to recover the $500 that I have waiting for me in bonus money.  See, the more days I miss playing online, the deeper hole I dig for myself in getting those FPPs and releasing the bonus by the 14th of August.  I worked my way down to needing ~150 FPPs for the remaining time, but I want to get the bonus done early and out of the way.

Well, I'm such a dedicated poker player that I went out, left my wife at home (literally in the dark), and found free wifi over at the University of Maryland Shady Grove campus, and got my points in.  I'm such a bad husband - but I figured, what else are we going to do?  We're both going to just fall asleep on the couch trying to fight closing our eyes in the dark talking to each other anyway...  why not make the evening a little productive, right?

Note:  That's exactly the state I found Mrs. Meister in when I got home; asleep and dazed on the couch.

In other news, I think live play has had the exact intended effect I hoped it would on Mrs. Meister.  The way we work things in our house is that I am the primary financial planner and she takes care of the ancillary activities like vacations, purchases, etc.  She keeps a separate account from our main bank account, so that she knows her exact budget and can plan accordingly.  To me, I couldn't care less how much is in there, because it only affects me when she plans a vacation for our family.  All I know is that there is no spending that comes out of our main account, so I'm blissfully ignorant.  Well, back when we went up to AC at the beginning of July, I made a deal with her that she could stake me the money out of her "special" accounts and I would give her any winnings I earned.  The contrary would hold true; i.e. if I lost, she'd be on the hook for the difference.  For the past few live sessions, though, she's only seen her account grow - and as a result, I think Mrs. Meister has been coming around a TON lately - she's becoming a supportive poker player's wife.  For the first time, she actually suggested that I go & play this Friday over in Delaware...  I think I got her hooked on the new income stream :-).

Anyway, I leave you with this hand.  I think it was a pretty easy hand to play, but I like the way I played it:

Full Tilt Poker $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 8 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

MP1: $50.00
MP2: $86.30
CO: $16.00
BTN: $43.70
SB: $66.75 - 18/16 / 54% steal / 9.0% 3bet / 5.3 AF / 81% cbet flop / 230 hands
BB: $75.95
UTG: $48.70
Hero (UTG+1): $50.00

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is UTG+1 with 4s 4d
1 fold, Hero raises to $1.75, MP1 calls $1.75, 3 folds, SB raises to $7.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $5.75, 1 fold
With a 9% 3bet, there's no sense in 4betting with a weak hand.  However, I'm not going to let him blow me off of my hand, PF.  I think we're 50/50 here.

Flop: ($17.25) Ah 8c 2s (2 players)
SB bets $5.50, Hero calls $5.50
This is pretty standard, but a very *WEAK* bet here.  HUGE WEAKNESS!  Either he's playing weak to rep strong, or he just wreaks of weakness.

Turn: ($28.25) 5d (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks
I'm not sure whether this is to induce a bluff bet here so he can c/r me off the hand, so I check behind.  This is altogether weird.

River: ($28.25) Kc (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $14.75, SB requests TIME, SB folds
I think by this point, I put him on a hand that beats me, but I've played the part of "afraid of the Ace" long enough.  I want to bet to make sure that he folds and not show down a crappy small pair that beats me.

Final Pot: $28.25
Hero wins $26.85
(Rake: $1.40)

I feel like I've seen this so often before... Player is looking for a snap call from one of the other players - he's holding AA (mostly) or sometimes KK. Talk about an overbet! Either he's putting a move on me, which I don't see why he would do, or his range is AA, AK, KK. 50% of the time I'm flipping, 50% of the time I'm a 20% dog. With $1.75 in the pot, I'll try again another time.

Final Pot: $7.25
BB wins $7.25
