What would you do? #59 - Facing flop push

From the Rush table archive:

Full Tilt Poker $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

UTG: $52.15
UTG+1: $249.20
UTG+2: $50.00
MP1: $39.35
MP2: $37.25
CO: $34.70
Hero (BTN): $69.55
SB: $56.55
BB: $58.10

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BTN with Kc Kd
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 raises to $2.25, 2 folds, MP2 calls $2.25, 1 fold, Hero raises to $9, 3 folds, UTG+1 calls $6.75, MP2 calls $6.75
I want it to look like a steal. It works because I get both callers.

Flop: ($28.25) 2h 4c 3d (3 players)
UTG+1 bets $9, MP2 raises to $28.25 all in, Hero calls $28.25, UTG+1 folds
What would you do? Are you calling this?

I figured I'm not completely dead; I doubt he shows up with A5, but 22, 33, and 44 are on the outside realm of possibilities. I'm actually very scared of UTG+1 showing up with AA after the flat pre-flop. The question is, though: is MP2 playing a set in this way? Shoving the flop? That's what made me make the call.

Turn: ($93.75) Th (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: ($93.75) 7c (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $93.75
MP2 shows 5c 5h (a pair of Fives)
Hero shows Kc Kd (a pair of Kings)
Hero wins $90.75
(Rake: $3.00)

  2. tough spot but it's tough to not call the way the hand played out. So many people shove an over pair to prevent AK/AQ from calling and chasing the straight or hitting their overs.

Or could have been a shove from AK/AQ type hands chasing the straight. 55 is doing a little better but A5, 56 and a set have you crushed.

If they have a smaller overpair or AK/AQ type hand you're way ahead.

Putting him on the range of some sort of strong ace or any pair, including made sets and straights, including 65s you have 65% equity in the hand and you're getting a decent price to call.

Easy to say that though after seeing the hand play out. We all want to have the ability to tell when we're ahead or behind but it's so hard to narrow down someone's range that much.

BTW. I noticed you have adsense on your site. Thought they didn't allow it on gambling/casino related blogs. Have you had any problems? From what I've seen, sometimes sites don't get fully reviewed until it's time to make their first payment.

  3. I haven't gotten paid; I think I'm barely at the $10 mark in a little more than 6 months of blogging. Clearly I'm not in it for the money :-).
