He claims not to have the QQ, but what do you think of this fold?  I waffled back & forth.  He flats a 4bet pre-flop, rather than shove / fold.  I definitely planned on checking the flop / betting the turn and/or check / calling the flop given a "reasonable" bet.

In writing this and having time to reconsider a few days later, though, I think this was probably a bad fold.  He can easily show up with JJ, TT, even AQ and want to charge me for what he would perceive to be AK.

Since I've been playing on this site, I've been seeing a lot of face-up AA limp/raise moves, which simply don't work online.  However, given that this guy has raised before, I'm a little suspicious of his AA.  Actually, the reality is that I'm putting him on a range of AA,KK,AK - whose range obviously has me dominated.

However, if I can guarantee that he's never folding his AA,KK to an all under flop, is there ever a way of justifying this call?  In other words, if I know I'm going to stack him every time I hit my set, is this call justifiable?

I've generally been folding to the limp / raise, but I'm starting to rethink my strategy with these pocket pairs and suited connectors.

FWIW, this is an auto-fold for AK, etc.

Flop: ($12.75) Td 2h 5s (2 players)
UTG bets $11.50, Hero calls $11.50
Obviously, I'm 100% ahead here.  I flopped the nuts.  I'm so positive he has AA, KK that I call the flop bet in order to ensure that the turn is not an A or K.

The dry nature of this flop is such that there are virtually no turn cards (barring a very slight chance of a turned Ten / quads) that will push him off of his hand on the turn / river.  If he checks the turn to me, I can bet around $15-20 and push the safe river.

If I am 100% sure of his hand, and he's drawing to "4" outs (2 in reality), why not reduce my variance and take half of his odds away from him?  I am 100% confident that I can fold to a turned Ace or King (more than likely Ace, a King would be a lot harder fold for me).

I'm at a passive table where I'll usually see a flop with my suited gapper for cheap.  When UTG+1 raises, I debated folding - primarily for the position.  I am not in favor of normally seeing a raised flop, OOP.  However, there were two thoughts for calling: if the flop comes in correct, I will have a seriously concealed hand, and this guy has already shown (though 14 hands) generally fishy behavior.

I figure the UTG will call, and likely at least one other fish will come along.  I have position and a fit or fold speculative hand.  Easy call in my book, especially given the price of 3x.

Flop: ($6.25) 8h Tc 5d (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Hero checks
If this were a bet into me, this is the "fold" of the fit or fold part of the hand.  LOLaments no one leading the flop.

Turn: ($6.25) 6c (4 players)
BB bets $2.50, UTG calls $2.50, MP folds, Hero calls $2.50
Best card ever?  I turn an idiot straight draw + flush draw.  With one card to come, I'm not going crazy here, though I have a ton of outs.

River: ($13.75) 7s (3 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $5.00, BB calls $5, UTG calls $5
Ok.  So I have the bottom end of a 4 straight, where it is very easy for at least one of my opponents to show up with a 9.  However, my thought here is that both BB & UTG have checked through the river - are they ever allowing this hand to go to showdown when they have the nuts or second nuts?  I have to think that all 9's or better hands are at least betting some nominal amount.  They, like me, have to figure that all non-9 hands are checking through and they'll go to showdown with no value.

This is not the board to check / raise because there seems to be only very few hands that can withstand a check raise.  Therefore, my idiot end of the 4 straight *HAS* to be good.  However, my opponents are well aware that the could be far behind with me holding a straight, so my value bet has to be on the smallish side, hence the ~1/3 pot.  I'm not looking for a TON of value, but I am looking for some value.

I think a rivered club would have worked out FAR better for me, as I would have backdoored them (even though no one bet the flop) and it would have been FAR less obvious than the 4 straight.

Final Pot: $28.75
Hero shows 3c 4c (FWIW, BB had a flopped set of 8's and UTG had a rivered set of 7's)
Hero wins $27.35
(Rake: $1.40)

In retrospect, as I'm writing the commentary, I think I missed out on another $2-$4 in value.  Although I'm happy with river value, I don't love my bet sizing.  I think I could have bet $6-$7 on the river with the same check / call results.

I've been playing with PF raise sizes on this site, as I've found that the fishy players are calling to see flops regardless PF bet sizing.  UTG has been very fishy thus far, calling PFRs out of position and folding flops, so I make a more significant raise than the usual 4-4.5x.  I've actually started raising limpers 5x, and I'm moving into 5.5x territory.

Am I seeing a set overbet shove like this? It just seems *SO* fishy to see this kind of action on a dry board like this. A4 / 4 6 isn't likely playing this way, either, as they are more than likely value betting rather than trying to run me off of the hand. I make the "crying" call, but am fairly confident I'm ahead.

SB checks, UTG checks, MP1 bets $4.00, Hero raises to $16.00, SB calls $16, UTG calls $16, MP1 calls $12
They're not going away, given my raise.  I'm mildly concerned about the possibility of a flush over flush - particularly due to the 2 low cards out there already.  Their flat on the turn is troubling, though it is re-assuring that the Ah is on the board, meaning that the hand combos of flushes dramatically drop (barring random Kh7h -type hands).

"Reasonable" combos include non-Ace broadways (i.e. KQ, JT, etc.) and suited connectors / gappers, which aren't that abundant.

River: ($86.50) 9s (4 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets $30.00, SB calls $14.13 all in, UTG calls $30, MP1 folds
Given the flat on the turn and the lack of action on the river (given the brick), I have to imagine that I'm only getting called by worse hands (and folding out the draws who missed), which is why I choose to value bet.

I consider an open shove, where I have the table covered, but honestly don't think he calls his effective $47 stack with a non-flush.  Therefore, I settle on a "smaller" value bet, trying to get each of the 3 remaining players to call.  Note that the difference between "smaller" and "shove is really $17, but I do think it makes a difference to UTG and MP1, who will be most affected by bet sizing.  Betting $30 into $87 is much more reasonable to me than $50 into $87.  2 out of 3 ain't bad, and it's a decent pot for my suited connector gamble.  I'm surprised, though, that when MP1 calls, UTG calls as well.

I've been playing around with checking rivers when OOP, and been consistently finding that the more aggro players realize that they only way they can win is by bluffing off the best hand.  Therefore, instead of going ahead and triple barrelling (admittedly, my hand is about as weak as it gets), I'm giving the villain some rope.  It works at a surprising frequency; I've been playing with this method with both strong and weak hands (obviously check/raising the strong hands and check / calling the weak ones).

Finally, I am pot controlling the river by check / calling because I certainly don't want to pwn myself if he did indeed hit his KhQh/KhJh over, etc.  As it stands, though, as played, barring the rivered K, he's turning his hand into a bluff, regardless of the strength of his hand.

What does he have that he's willing to raise a limped pot?  He is a losing / break-even player with 36.5/13 stats, and an AF of 1.74...  He's not overboard aggro, but for him to be raising a limped pot and calling my 3bet, he's likely married to his hand.

Armed with the 2 tickets I had won during the WBCOOP, I decided that it would be EV+ to utilize one on an entry into the Sunday Millions with the $5,000,000 guarantee ($1MM for first place).  Having cleared out my Sunday afternoon, getting the head-nod from the wife, and proceeding to click the “Register” button, I journeyed forward into the 55K+ field, which will likely turn out to be the largest Sunday Millions field ever.  For what it’s worth, this is my first attempt at the Sunday Millions, let alone my largest buy in event *EVER*.  So much for EV+.  Better luck next time.

A hearty thanks to foucault / Andrew Brokos for his hosting of PokerStars Home Game

For those of you who aren't aware, you can take a shot pwning play against Mr. Brokos in his PokerStars Home Game club.  He got a sponsorship deal with PokerStars and currently hosts weekly tournaments as well as cash games.  You can find the details on his website, Thinking Poker.  If you have the means, I highly recommend it!

Intro aside, I just finished playing against him and other club members in a cash game of $10PLO.  It was hellafun!  As readers of this blog are well aware, I am NOT a PLO player - having limited hands, mostly played during the PokerStars-hosted WBCOOP 8 Game Mix.  At any rate, foucault hosted a great game, was a gracious host, and the chat box was always interesting.  Thanks for hosting and putting this series together, Andrew!

Now onto the HHs:

I pwned in a couple of hands:
PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha, $0.10 BB (6 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

CO ($10)
Button ($33.68)
SB ($24.77)
BB ($9.29)
Hero (UTG) ($13.29)
MP ($21.01)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with Jh, 9s, 5h, 8c
Hero bets $0.30, 1 fold, CO calls $0.30, 2 folds, BB calls $0.20

Flop: ($0.95) 3c, 8s, 10c (3 players)
BB bets $0.55, Hero calls $0.55, CO raises to $2.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $1.95

Turn: ($6.50) 7d (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $6.18, Hero raises to $10.49 (All-In), CO calls $1.02 (All-In)

River: ($20.90) 10d (2 players, 2 all-in)

Total pot: $20.90 | Rake: $1.02

Results:
Hero had Jh, 9s, 5h, 8c (straight, Jack high).
CO had Ac, 9c, 4s, 6h (straight, ten high).
Outcome: Hero won $19.88
----
PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha, $0.10 BB (5 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

BB ($10)
UTG ($36.10)
MP ($22.11)
Button ($9.87)
Hero (SB) ($27.84)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 9h, 7s, 2s, 8s
2 folds, Button bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.20, BB calls $0.15

Flop: ($0.75) 3h, 7h, 2c (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, Button bets $0.30, Hero calls $0.30, 1 fold

Turn: ($1.35) Jc (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $0.75, Hero raises to $2.25, Button calls $1.50

River: ($5.85) 5s (2 players)
Hero bets $2.25, Button raises to $7.07 (All-In)
Hero said, "didnt expect that"
Hero said, "you have a wheel?"
Hero said, "thats about the only thing that can beat me right now"
Not quite sure here, but given the action , I have to imagine that he's potting the flop if he has a set.  On the turn, he's still not trying to get it in; he's pot controlling by calling my c/r of the two pair.  Therefore, I deduce that he has to have air/bluff or wrap.  I don't think he's doing this even with a set.  I also don't think that he's pot controlling a wrap + flush draw or something, FWIW.  Hence, I make the call.
Hero calls $4.82

Total pot: $19.99 | Rake: $0.98

Results:
Button had Ah, Ad, Kc, Qs (one pair, Aces).
Hero had 9h, 7s, 2s, 8s (two pair, sevens and twos).
Outcome: Hero won $19.01
----
I bluff caught Mr. Brokos once, where I'm sure I missed value, but not sure:
PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha, $0.10 BB (4 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

Button ($10)
SB ($18.11)
BB ($41.85)
Hero (UTG) ($34.06)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with As, Ac, 10d, Qd
Hero bets $0.30, 2 folds, BB calls $0.20

Flop: ($0.65) Qc, 10s, 6c (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.50, BB calls $0.50

Turn: ($1.65) 2h (2 players)
BB bets $1.57, Hero calls $1.57
When he delayed check/raises here, I'm suddenly cautious, though not good enough to raise all in given our deep stacks.

River: ($4.79) 2c (2 players)
BB bets $4.56, Hero calls $4.56
I opt to call down my Aces up, which I'm not sure is a mistake.  Should I be going for value here?

Total pot: $13.91 | Rake: $0.68

Results:
BB had Jc, Ah, 9h, Kd (one pair, twos).
Hero had As, Ac, 10d, Qd (two pair, Aces and twos).
Outcome: Hero won $13.23
----
But my crowning achievement of the session was running a semi-bluff on Johnny Chan Mr. Brokos:
PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha, $0.10 BB (5 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

UTG ($10)
MP ($36.40)
Button ($25.11) <- Senior Brokos
SB ($9.92)
Hero (BB) ($24.80)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Jc, 9h, 7h, 9d
1 fold, MP bets $0.30, Button raises to $1.05, 1 fold, Hero raises to $3, 1 fold, Button calls $1.95, 1 fold, MP raises to $0.30, Button raises to $1.05, 1 fold, Hero raises to $3, 1 fold, Button calls $1.95
He had been 3betting MP a TON.  Though I hadn't a ton of history on either player since I came in late, I assumed that Andrew and he knew each other / had some history.  I decide to jump in with my semi-strength hand.  I think this is more read-based rather than card based.

Flop: ($6.35) 6c, 5s, Jd (2 players)
Hero bets $3.25, 1 fold, Hero bets $3.25, 1 fold
I probably should have check / raised, given that he's likely to cbet a checked flop.  However, this flop is fairly dry and there's no guarantee of a raise.  Moreover, if he bets the flop, he's going to commit himself.  By donking/ cbetting here OOP, I want him to feel as though I'm committed.

Still, for 10PLO, this is a decent pot against a pro.  Question I have is what does he have that he calls a 3x 4bet?

Total pot: $9.60 | Rake: $0.31

Results:
Hero didn't show Jc, 9h, 7h, 9d.
Outcome: Hero won $12.08

Flop: ($25.00) 3h Ks 5c (2 players)
SB bets $16, Hero calls $16
I call.  Really?  Is he betting so big with AK or a set or overpair?  I totally disagree with his line - it does not make sense AT ALL, especially given his aggro PF nature.

Turn: ($57.00) Kh (2 players)
SB bets $26, Hero raises to $41.25 all in, SB requests TIME, SB calls $15.25
A turned King makes it far less likely that he holds a King himself.  The WTF part is why he's calling my re-raise shove; what can he possibly beat to warrant a call?  WTF?!?!??!

River: ($139.50) 8c (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $139.50
SB shows 8s Qc (two pair, Kings and Eights) - LOL calling the turn with a Q as your equity; 3 outs once!  Did you really think I'm shoving Q7 or worse?  Oh yeah!  I could have 2 4 and been drawing.
Hero shows Tc Th (two pair, Kings and Tens)

BB checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($3.25) 7h (2 players)
BB bets $2.50, Hero raises to $7.00, BB calls $4.50
If he has a Jx hand, he can call the raise.  At this point, based on his call, I believe he has trips.  He's a donkey and I want to value own him.

River: ($17.25) 4s (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $43.25 all in, BB calls $43.25
He checks to limit the pot size, going into pot control mode.  Given that he's a donkey (unfortunately, I don't have his stats readily available, but they're north of 50% VPIP), I think he's check / calling any and all river bets here.  I also don't think he's good enough to lay down trips, or even trips / no kicker.  After careful consideration, I settle on open shoving as the most effective means of getting all in as I don't believe he's ever check / raising the river without a A J / J 4 / J 7 hand, and he wants desperately to get to showdown.

Shipping 2.5x pot on the river is always fun!

Final Pot: $103.75
Hero shows As Ad
BB shows Jc 9d

Hero calls $23.75

Even though he's an utter donkey, I feel like there are 2 hand types that have me (Ax & Tx), and 2 draws that never got there. I don't believe he's ever showing up with a boat here, as he wants to go for value rather than bomb.  However, I feel as though he's bombing the river often enough (41%) that he has to show up with a good portion of air.  This was the first time I bluff caught him on the night.  Good to know that he's capable of a river "shove."
